Events What constitutes a 'County Team' in the Regional Clout Championships? - At the Regional Clout Championships an inter-county competition is included. The make-up of teams are as follows. For a recurve team: 4 archers shooting 'senior' distances. Of the four a minimum of one lady and one gentleman must be part of the team. For both Longbow and Compound teams; 3 archers shooting the senior distances. Of the three a minimum of one lady and one gentleman must be part of the team
Events What events do NCAS provide? - Only five events come under the banner of 'NCAS' competitions. The Indoor Championships, Field Championships, Clout Championships, Flight Championships and the 'Grand Northern Archery Meeting'. A sixth exists but this is a closed shoot now often called the 'Five Cornered Shoot', held each autumn and pits archers from each of the Northern Counties against each other. A 'junior' five cornered and a 'senior' five cornered aree hosted over one week-end on separate days.
Events Who organises the events? The 'regional committee' no longer organise the events directly. In most cases each county, in turn, arrange to 'host' the shoot and arrange with a 'local' club to run the shoot on behalf of N.C.A.S. The reward for this offer is the payment of an 'honorarium' of £100-00 per event-day, from the region to the club.
Events If 'we' want to offer to run an event for you what do we do? When the time comes for your county to act as 'host' county you must offer to run the shoot for the county. If they accept, the honorarium is not automatically allocated and must be applied for from the Regional Treasurer. If the regional event is included in another existing event the honorarium is still paid, HOWEVER, the region will not cover a loss making event other than the provision of the £100-00 per event-day. All profits or loss are retained within the club.
Administration What do you people do anyway? The answer is "a multitude of jobs not managed or manageable by GNAS". The treasurer acts as a filter for GNAS affiliations coming through from it's 'counties'. He/she also manages the day-to-day finances of the region, paying honorariums to event managers, routing monies to assist our judges and coaches, and providing an audit of our revenues at year end. The secretary filters all communication through the region, organises the quarterly meetings and acts as liaison between counties. Other posts are more specific. The clout, field and flight representatives all manage the individual arms of the sport at the regional level. Each county can send 'vote carrying' representive(s) to the region to act on their behalf and also to act as liaison beyond the normal county boundaries. In the other direction we (each region) provide a representative to the E.A.F. (English Archery Federation) as GNAS as perceived as the governing body of the 'overall' GB archery organisation (England, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Scotland and Wales) and an independant body is needed to represent 'all England' to external bodies governing 'national' sport.
